“Don’t you get it? There aren’t any new things. You’re new.” – Garrett Oliver // Brooklyn Brewery
Yeah, I’m new here, so I figured this would be a good place to start.
In a richly informative conversation with Michael Kiser of Good Beer Hunting on the Good Beer Hunting podcast, Garrett Oliver, Brew Master of Brooklyn Brewery, was discussing aging of vintage beers and came out with this gem of a quote.
Having been in the industry for more than 25 years now, he’s seen many of the trends come and go. From canning beers, to aging beers, to low alcohol “session” styles, these modern trends are nothing new to the brewing industry.
Similarly, what I’m creating here at Watson’s Corner – a place to share stories about the people and passion behind some incredible craft beers – is nothing new.
I’ve been inspired by the words of Garrett Oliver of Brooklyn Brewery, Michael Kiser of Good Beer Hunting, Matt Curtis of Total Ales, Jon Buford & Patrick Ware of Arizona Wilderness Brewing Co., to name a few – all incredible story tellers and contributors to the craft beer industry.
I recognize many of the stories I’ll be sharing have been told elsewhere, but my goal is to bring them together in one place and help new readers discover, delve into and enjoy the depth of beer culture.
I welcome you to Watson’s Corner, and I hope you’ll welcome me to the world of beer writing!
Cheers!
